New year, new ideas and a new name!

Just last week, a local woman of 40 years responded rather indignantly to being asked to join our club with “Why would I do that? I am hardly a newcomer!!!”

In fact, of the 60+ new members who joined in 2025, roughly 90% had to be persuaded that our club was for everyone, new and long-time locals. Sometimes exhaustingly.

Former Newcomers’ president Ann, along with then VP and now current president Debe Wilson, long ago realized how painstakingly frustrating the outreach efforts were to attract women who were longstanding residents to our club.

On March 2nd, close to five years after the initial conversations between Ann and Debe, the board and leadership of our wonderful club reached a nearly unanimous decision. The boards’ efforts included collecting input on more than a dozen new options for names, researching marketing strengths and weaknesses, and investigating other local club names, along with significant discussions and multiple votes over the past few meetings.

We are pleased to announce that the board of Newcomers of Nevada County has officially been changed. A tremendous amount of time, effort, and votes were expended for a final happy decision.

Welcome to the new name of our club:
